Gigabit Hub

If you're looking for a faster hub, you're probably in the market for a gigabit hub since they are 10 times faster than 10/100 hubs.  Also, what you might actually be looking for is a gigabit switch instead of a hub.  Switches are faster than hubs and will make your network faster.  Be sure the hardware you are buying is a switch, not a hub.  A gigabit switch will make your ethernet faster, because it will keep your information packets from colliding with each other and having to be resent.  For rest of this article, I'll use the words interchangeably.

A gigabit hub or high speed switch will probably get rid of any congestion in your network.  They have a switching ability of 10 Gbps. As if that's not enough, most of the new hubs are more efficient, so they will save you or your company money when the electric bill comes.

You can buy a gigabit hub for anywhere from around $50 to several hundred.  Usually, you get what you pay for.  Also, you can get nearly any number of ports on your hub.  The gigabit switch shown in the picture is an 8 port hub as you can see.
The one pictured is made by Netgear.  You can also buy a gigabit hub from D-link, Trendnet, or any of many other companies.  This one's encased in metal and can set flat on a desktop, or it can be mounted to a wall.  A metal shell is pretty typical for these but some come in plastic.  It doesn't require fans so it runs silently.  This is a nice feature if it's on your desk.  It's basically a plug and play gigabit hub, meaning it doesn't require the installation of software to work.  It will operate as soon as you plug it in.

This website will continue to post information about gigabit hubs and switches so be sure to come back if you need more information about the best hubs available or check out some of the other articles available.
